Satellite and meteor capture mpg4 20130813 11UT
Click to download 1:25 minute edited video in mpg4 (700kb). A test of a meteor capturing system using an 12mm varifocal CS IR lens with a DMK 31AU03 camera was done on the day after the 2013 Perseids shower peak, due to weather. 34 minutes of 2 sec. exposures were made of an 18 deg TFOV field containing part of the constellation Perseus. Two objects were captured: 1) a satellite passage, and 2) an erratic non-Perseid meteor. This edited video file shows those two events. For the satellite passage, the 4.9 mag satellite appears a series of discrete 1.2 deg streaks, and the size of the streaks corresponds to the satellite ephemeris speed of 0.61 degs/sec. For the meteor capture, a faint 5.0 mag erratic meteor streak travels from right to left across the bottom of the screen.
