Dr. Jumana Alshaikh "The Neurology of Space Travel"

Jumana Alshaikh, M.D. is a clinical neurologist and an assistant professor of neurology at the University of Utah. She is from Saudi Arabia and moved to the U.S. ten years ago. She started her career in the U.S. as a neurology researcher in Washing ton DC, then did her neurology residency training at the University of Chicago followed by her subspecialty training in movement disorders at Johns Hopkins University. She moved to Utah in 2021 for her current position as a neurologist and assistant professor at the University of Utah and is the co-director of their Parkinson's Disease Center of Excellence and has won the Department of Neurology's Teacher of the Year award twice in 2022 and 2024. After moving to Utah, she looked up at the sky and saw the Milky Way for the 1st time and fell in love with the cosmos, then found her way to SLAS where she learned a lot about astronomy. She appreciates all the knowledge taught to her by SLAS members. She is excited to speak to us about a topic that combines her neurology profession with her astronomy hobby: "The Neurology of Space Travel."
Location: Auditorium 104 of the Rampton Technology Building, Salt Lake Community College Redwood Road Campus.

Parking is in lot "R" located directly north of the building. Parking in any lot other than "R" will result in your car being ticketed and/or towed by campus police for which SLAS is not responsible.

General meetings are open to the public.
